About

Mingshi Lin creates illustration, independent film, oil painting, music, and experimental sound that deliver evocative spiritual imagery with a poetic temperament.

She pursues an aesthetic that re-portrays and deconstructs consciousness and matter, nature and humanity, and cyborgs and knowledge, in order to inspire ‘something in between’ and liberate the third overtone from the conventional narratives.

Her works seek to explore the ‘resonation’ of the world — the ‘Aeolian’ derived from perceptions. Her brushstrokes, montage, and voice mean to create a new immersive environment — an ambience — a metaphysical space in which the mind wanders freely and ‘body’ drifts randomly while dissolving itself out of the borders. “Imagination is a sensory movement; the canvas is the habitat where my mind should go and rest,” she has noted. “Arts only live well in the uncanny collision between dreamy vision and real tactility. I just let my hand move, selling peerless imagination, not products.”

About

Mingshi Lin creates illustration, independent film, oil painting, and experimental sound that deliver beautifully abstract imageries and emotional, poetic temperament.

She pursues an aesthetic that re-portray and deconstruct consciousness and matter, nature and human being, and cyborg and knowledge, in order to inspire ‘something in between,’ to release the third overtone from the conventional narratives.

The visuals attempt to review the ecological discourse by the natural habitat. The dualism of culture and nature is the antagonism within human beings. Human is trapped in themselves -- the progressive consciousness. The Earth where human beings live is now forced to deal with multiple crisis; crises of the environment, the climate, society, and meaning is becoming reflexive violence to us, we have a more urgent need today than ever for new cosmo-visions to reexamine the emerging pluralization of the world, to make the unthinkable thinkable, and the thinkable believable and possible. (Escobar, 2020)

As soon as we figure out the path to come back to our ancestors’ ‘home,’ we can understand the whales’ songs and what birds sing to us. When we flee from the dreamlike, ghostly mirage, our minds will find that ability back, leading us to the evocative ‘nostalgia’ shimmering in the mists.
